Preparing for labour

Preparing for labour

At this moment in my pregnancy I’m beginning to concentrate more on preparing for labour. At the start of my pregnancy I read a lot about what to expect during pregnancy and what it would be like generally. Now it’s all about preparing for the actual labour and delivery.

I’ve read a number of birth stories and tried to watched some birthing videos. As I get more and more tired these days I’m aware I need to start my exercises for labour in order to prepare my body. I’m also working on getting into the right frame of mind.

I believe this: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

30 weeks

Week 30

Weight gain: 9.5kg /20lbs
Symptoms: Heartburn 😦
Cravings: Nothing particular, trying to eat healthy.
Baby: 1.3kg, size of a head of cabbage. 40cm long.
Baby development: Eye-sight developing

Amazing info: We like to pray as a family and if I or hubs lays a hand on the bump, baby moves!

wow 30 weeks pregnant today! Seems like yesterday we found out I/we was/were pregnant. I actually look like a pregnant woman now, the bump is getting bigger.
This is such an exciting time. I’m eagerly looking forward to welcoming my little prince. I can’t wait to hold him and just stare at him.
We’re preparing physically, psychologically and spiritually to be parents. I’ve been reading books, articles online and my Bible in preparation. Sometimes it’s so daunting to think that God has given one a child and you are responsible for training him up in the right way. I believe that we each have the potentials in us by His grace.
Also preparing our home for his arrival, his cot has been ordered (yay!). The list of essentials and desirables keeps increasing but thankfully we’ve had all these months to spread out purchases.
We visited a couple who just had their first baby and I was a bit freaked out after listening to the story of the lady’s almost 24 hour labour & birth. Sometimes I think about the whole birth thing and I fear creeps in because I will be having a natural birth. I’m now concentrating on preparing my body and mind for labour. It will be okay I know!

It’s been an amazing few months and set to get even better when our little prince arrives.

14 weeks

14 weeks

I’m now 14 weeks pregnant and baby is the size of a LEMON. I’ve been feeling a lot stronger since week 13, although a 1-2 hour nap during the day is still necessary to keep me going.I’ve been reading some articles about connecting with your baby while his in the womb and I’m trying to always remember to say Good morning and talk to the baby. I’m trying to decide on a particular song to constantly sing to the baby and see if he remembers/recognizes the same song when he’s born :)I’m expecting the delivery of tons of baby stuff I bought last week and we’re going to a baby fair this weekend! So excited 🙂

Pregnancy Progress Report

How far along; 14 weeks

Total Weight Gain/Loss: 5 Pounds

The Bump: A mystery; sometimes it looks like there a genuine bump but other times I just look like I’ve had too much to eat.

Symptoms: Constant headaches. Bitter taste in my mouth.

Food cravings/aversions: I ate chicken for the first time in weeks at Barcelos, maybe it was bearable because of the Peri-peri seasoning. Still loving potatoes in all forms.

Life Changing

Life Changing

At the start of a particular week I tweeted this:

Little did I know that we would be receiving life changing news in a few days. I started feeling unwell the weekend before. I had previously been diagnosed with malaria at the end of June and took the prescribed drugs.

I was feeling very weak and down during the week and so demotivated, I couldn’t follow my normal routine of household chores and it took all my strength to prepare a meal. Also I was sleeping for almost 4 hours in the middle of the day. Only after an extraordinary long nap did I have a little strength to do a few things.

On Friday, hubs and I decided it was high time I went to the clinic after I woke up in the early hours of the day feeling unwell. We went to the hospital and after speaking to the doctor, she asked me to go do a pregnancy test first. Okay, so we had only just decided to start trying for a baby and didn’t expect it to happen quite so fast. I just felt it was a hurdle to cross before the doctor diagnosed me, I was not expecting a positive result.

In 5 minutes after doing the necessary things at the lab, the results came through and we saw the word POSITIVE stamped on the sheet. We both looked at each other first in surprise and then had huge smiles on our faces.
